The Cure has more material in the works to follow their comeback album, Songs of a Lost World.
Speaking with the U.K.’s Absolute Radio, frontman Robert Smith shares, “There’s another album which is pretty much ready to go,” describing it as a “companion piece” to Songs of a Lost World.
“Then there’s a third [album], which is completely different,” Smith continues. “It’s really kind of random stuff. It’s, like, late night studio stuff. But some of it’s really, really good, actually.”
Smith adds that he’s still working on the lyrics to the third record while also focusing on Songs of a Lost World, which just dropped in November. The album, which marked the first full-length effort from The Cure in 16 years, debuted at #1 in the U.K. and is the band’s highest charting release in the U.S. in 32 years.
“The reaction to the new music has been so, so great,” Smith says.
