Katy Perry was certainly living a “Teenage Dream” when she saw Radiohead live at age 13.

During an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the pop star shared that the first “real” concert she attended was by the “Creep” rockers. But that wasn’t all she revealed.

“I was 13, I looked 18, and they invited me backstage,” Perry said. “My dad said, ‘Hell no.'”

When a surprised Jimmy Kimmel asked, “Who invited you backstage?” Perry laughed, “The rock! The rock ‘n’ roll invited me!”

“I called [my dad] after the show and I said, ‘They want us to come backstage,'” Perry recalled. “He said, ‘I’ll be right there! No way, José!'”

Asked if she ever told frontman Thom Yorke that story, Perry said, “No, I think when I’ve seen him, I’ve just frozen because he’s just incredible.”

While Perry’s Radiohead fandom may be surprising, she actually referenced them in her song “The One That Got Away” with the lyric “We make out in your Mustang to Radiohead.”

Perry is also not the only pop star to share their love for Radiohead. In a 2022 interview, Lizzo shared that she grew up listening to OK Computer and later posted a cover of “Creep.”
