My Morning Jacket has shared a new song called “Squid Ink,” a track off the band’s upcoming album, is.
“The idea behind ‘Squid Ink’ is that certain people carry a negativity that fills the room like a squid shooting ink into the water,” says frontman Jim James. “It’s about trying to get out of those murky waters by believing in yourself, and when [drummer] Patrick [Hallahan] and I were jamming I got the idea to sing part of the chorus really low — almost like putting a beard on the face of the vocal.”
You can listen to “Squid Ink” now via digital outlets, and watch its accompanying video streaming now on YouTube.
Is, the follow-up to MMJ’s 2021 self-titled effort, drops March 21. It also includes the single “Time Waited.”
My Morning Jacket will launch a U.S. tour in April.
